With over fifty published poems and short stories, Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most widely known authors in literature today. His more well known works include some of the following titles:
-The Cask of Amontillado
-The Raven
-The Fall of the House of Usher
-The Tell-Tale Heart
-The Pit and the Pendulum
-The Purloined Letter
Poe is noted for his writing expertise in the Gothic genre which includes elements of horror, a gloomy atmosphere, and a dark, decaying setting (such as castles, etc). Sometimes, supernatural elements add suspense as well. His concentration on death, insanity, and the darker side of humanity in his writing make him one of the most note worthy writers in the Gothic genre, perhaps even on par with the author of the horror classic Frankenstein, Mary Shelley.
"I became insane, with long intervals of horrible sanity." - Edgar Allan Poe
